WINTER

So. Hi.

I fear that I am becoming a more and more instagram-ish blogger; less and less content, more and more pictures like these, with me, posing good-naturedly with my head to the side, coffee mug or other beverages in hand. Sigh. No excess of creativity or wit there.

As not to dwell on the slightly less exciting facts that create the basis for my life, I'd like to draw attention to the fact that it is now....

WINTER! It's mid-to-late November. Already. We haven't seen snow falling merrily onto the slick, ice-coated ground just yet; but you can almost feel it lingering in the air, like a far-off thunderstorm.

Already the windows of Strøget are decorated with elves, reindeer, and oddly enough, Christmas chickens (I'm sure someone can enlighten me as to the Christmas-wisdom in that). My workplace café is already selling Glögg and other Christmassy delightful-ties, and while American, French and Swedish tourists are pouring into the place by the bucketload, my co-workers are trying to bamboozle each other into accepting the shift on December 23rd. I myself am not participating that conversation, seeing as I'll be off to the States for Christmas, from December 22nd to the 2nd of January; looking immensely forward to egg nog, roast ham, sweet potatoes and the largest Christmas brunch I can cram into my mouth. But before that comes Thanksgiving; roast turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie with sweet whipped cream, apple pie with vanilla ice cream, cranberry sauce and gravy. Looking forward to running through the streets of Copenhagen the day before Christmas, flailing around with mittens, hats and warm jackets, popping from store to store, frantically searching for that last present for that twenty-fifth aunt that you somehow forgot the the present-chaos. Watching "The Holiday" and being reminded that the very season the movie takes place in actually is rather close to the one we are currently in, and that it therefore seems like a so much more justifiable excuse to watch Jude Law blubber in earnest in the final scene. Being up to my ears in Christmas music; practicing for what feels like hundreds of Christmas concerts with the choir, unconciously humming old Christmas hymns in class, and listening to the crooning, Christmassy tunes of Billie Holiday as I work late in front of my computer. It's coming fast...

The season of cold, of food, of inappropriate decorations, of snow, of Christmas music, of friends and family and of Christmas is drawing closer. And like the early bird I am, I'm already settling into a Christmassy mood...

But let's not get carried away here. First tango, then Paris. Or some other saying that illustrates that the succession of events has to correspond with how reality unfolds.

First winter. Then Christmas.

Spending the cold evenings in bed with a book.

"Bridget Jones' Diary" - the ultimate Christmas and wintertime entertainment.

Me at the thought of Christmas and Thanksgiving food.

Me the day after every Christmas lunch.

Acquring a growing set of coffee mugs for those cold winter mornings.

The exact moment the pre-Christmas semester ends.
Favorite wintery afternoon entertainment ATM: "Dexter"

Christmas logic worldwide.
Crazy Christmas lights in the States. Can't wait to see them - plus cactuses.

Every girl on her first Christmas sunbathing trip.

Every winter afternoon when I come home from school.

Listening to Christmas music on an old record player.

Me when jumping out of bed to turn off my alarm clock in the dark winter mornings.

Time for classics, cartoons, and childhood nostalgia.

Brr. I can almost feel the crisp, frosty air on my tongue.

Why I Love Sunday

So. Hi.

It's finally Sunday. And I just can't seem to muster the strength. For anything. Not today. Because today's Sunday.

Sunday is my favorite day of the week.

♥    You don't have to wear make-up.

♥    You can sleep all day.

♥    When you finally get up, you don't have to do anything.

♥    If you, by any chance, have work to do, you can sit in peace and quiet and work it out on your own.

♥    It's the best day for drinking chai, and cuddling up under your comforter.

♥    If the weather is miserable, it doesn't really matter; you're going to be wonderfully cooped up inside all day anyway. PS: The bad weather creates an excuse to stay inside and snuggle.

♥    Sunday is commonly known as National Hangover Day. It's the day you have a reunion with your thumping headache, your toilet bowl, and your various hangover-antidotes. Somehow it's okay to be completely zonked out on Sundays.

♥    Today I have done literally nothing; I have lain in bed, watched TV (my sister somehow persuaded me to watch Saw with her; some people have alternative ideas about the use of Sundays).

♥    Sunday is the day of non-meals; of eating greasy Chinese food for breakfast (dream scenario atm), buttered toast at 4pm, dinner being the only thing tying you over to the coming day of normality.

♥    It's right before Monday - the one day infamous of being the worst day of the week. And therefore, in comparison, Sunday becomes the last good day of the week.

♥    On this particular day, if I'm done with homework, work, and everything else, I can actually justify making stupid posts with lists like these, and a shitload of pictures and memes. Yesssss.

Oh lord. He exists.

When I'm in bed, and I can't find my phone.
Exactly how I don't look on Sundays.

How I look on Sundays with a hangover.

My best girlfriend on our girls' night in.

Me when I'm waiting for my food to be delivered.
